Tooth Fairy?

After a few weeks of nagging and urging from my wife, I finally decided to go to the dentist. One of my old tooth filling (7 years old) fell of last 2 weeks and it hurts like hell when I am chewing food. In addition to that I have another tooth with a big hole that needed to be filled as well. :-(

As I am scared like hell of tooth extraction, I decided to go for another option described by the dentist - root canal.

Basically root canal treatment is intended to save the tooth from extraction.

Quote from wikipedia: "To cure the infection and save the tooth, it is necessary for the dentist to cut into the pulp chamber, and remove the infected pulp by scraping it out of the root canals. Once that is done, the dentist fills the cavity with an inert material, usually Gutta-percha, and seals up the opening. This procedure is known as root canal therapy. If enough of the tooth is damaged by the disease or removed as a result of the treatment, a crown may be required.

Contrary to popular belief, root canal treatment is usually painless due to effective pain control techniques used by the dentist while the treatment is being performed and the (optional) use of pain control medication after treatment"

The cost for a root canal treatment at my place (Klinik Pergigian Putra Permai) is RM250.00. However today I only went through the first stage, which is cleaning up the canal and covering it with temporary filling. The next stage will require an X-ray (RM25.00) and implanting a filling in the canal (RM150.00). However I will not take the crown for now as I am already broke from all of the early treatments.

Today I spent:

  • Scaling (cleaning up) RM70.00
  • Temp filling for the other tooth RM40.00
  • First payment for root canal treatment RM100.00
  • Total: RM210.00

For the X-ray I need RM25.00

Next week, Wednesday I will need to pay:

  • Balance for root canal treatment RM150.00
  • Canal filling RM150.00
  • Permanent filling for the other tooth RM40.00
  • Total: RM340.00

Yeah.. the total is RM550.00 and I am frowning since I have yet to receive my training allowance from Khalid yet. Plus, no dental benefit from my company! Oh well..

So you people out there!!! Take care of your teeth, and once you detect a hole go to the dentist immediately to get a filling which will cost you a mere RM40~RM50. ;-)

Right now I am planning to have fillings for my other teeth with holes on them! I can’t afford more root canal treatment! :-(
